This includes wanting or wishing for what you haven’t got (eg. a better situation, better surroundings, a better deal); being DISSATISFIED with your particular circumstances (Ezekiel 16:26,28), evidenced by your murmuring; borrowing money to get what your neighbour has; buying things on impulse; using credit to get things “now” instead of waiting for God’s timing (IMPATIENCE); working to ‘get’ instead of working to ‘give’; putting yourself and lifestyle before the poor and needy; any form of gambling, including lotto and raffles, where you’re wanting something for nothing (Proverbs 13:11) or even encouraging or condoning others to do so.

The casinos are telling us that they are set up for people’s pleasure. This is a lie. If this was their objective they would be delighted to lose money, just as long as the people were happy. Obviously, they are set up for greed and profit, both for the casinos and the government [the Victorian govt. earns 14% of its income from gambling]. The fact that casinos are endorsed and promoted by our governments, is the fruit of a nation out of control. The truth is, gambling is vanity and has the potential of being an addiction that not only destroys the person and those he is responsible for, but is a thorn in the heart of this nation. Whenever we contradict any of these 10 spiritual laws, the nation will come to decay.

‘Let your conversation be without covetousness and be CONTENT with such things as you have: for He has said, I will never leave you nor forsake you.’ Hebrews 13:5

When “fear of loss”, especially financial, inhibits you from godly judgment, you are in sin, not love.

‘The love of money is the root of all evil.’ 1Tim.6:10

The materialism and corruption in the modern church stems directly from a blind arrogance towards this law. If no one was worried about ‘keeping up with the Joneses’ we’d all be satisfied with what we’ve got. Of course, the main weapon that satan uses to tempt us to covet is the TV. We simply see what’s out there and wish we could have it.

coveting = seeking your own 1Cor.10:24
