Ch.10: THE TWO TRUTHS REGARDING THE LAW

Posted: August 12, 2011 in Controversial
TRUTH 1. WE ARE FREE FROM “THE LAW OF SIN AND DEATH”.

‘There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the FLESH, but after the SPIRIT. For “THE LAW OF THE SPIRIT OF LIFE” in Christ Jesus has set me FREE from THE LAW OF SIN AND DEATH”. Romans 8: 1,2

ie. According to God’s own Word,  THE ONLY TIME YOU’RE FREE FROM THE LAW
IS WHEN YOU DO NOT WALK AFTER YOUR   FLESHLY DESIRES.

TRUTH 2. THE LAW IS STILL VALID TODAY

‘Do we make void the LAW because we are saved through faith in Jesus? God forbid: we establish the law.’ Rom.3:31

‘… the LAW is SPIRITUAL, HOLY, JUST and GOOD.’ Rom.7:12,14, 1 Tim.1:8

‘To be spiritually-minded, one must submit to the law.’ Romans 8:6,7

‘If you LOVE Me, KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS’ John.14:15.

‘If you want to enter into life, keep My laws.’ Matt.19:17, Rev.22:14

The fact is, Jesus Himself said, …”do not think that I have come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I have not come to destroy, but to fulfil. Not one iota will pass from the law, till all be fulfilled, ie when heaven & earth pass away. Whoever breaks one of these laws & teaches others to do so, shall be least in the kingdom of heaven, & whoever does them & teaches them, shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5:17-19

ie. Jesus has never announced their annulment!!

It’s important to note that the words ‘fulfil’ & ‘fulfilled’ come from the Greek words ‘pleroo’ & ‘ginomai’ which mean, ‘to fully satisfy’ & ‘to become’ … ie. ‘fulfil’ actually means, Jesus came to show us how to live in His laws, in love. He was the ultimate witness of how to walk in the law, & we should be witnessing this to the world too. Jesus is the law, Himself (Isa.33:22, Ja.4:12)!! It definitely doesn’t mean, that when He died on the cross, He cancelled the law. The truth is, He cancelled the ritual bondage of the law by demonstrating what love really is. It’s only when one is walking in love as Jesus did, can one be free from the law’s requirements, as Jesus was, because only love fulfils the law (Romans 13:10).

GOD DEFINES ‘LOVE’, as …
‘WALKING IN HIS COMMANDMENTS.’ (2 John 6)

On the one hand, it is true that a Christian is free from the law, but on the other hand, it’s also true that the law still exists. To take either truth without the other, is 1/2 truth and therefore a LIE !! If we are free from the law (without qualification), as some teach, then why are we still required to not steal, not kill, not lie, etc (Matt.19:17-19)? If you say we are unequivocally free from the law, then you’re saying we’re permitted to break them & sin! This is the lie of the enemy. The truth is, being justified by faith does not give you the right to ignore the law, for faith works by the loving action of obedience (Gal.5:6; James 2:24). Neither does Love give you the right to disregard the law (John 14:15), even though true love effectively negates the law. This is a paradox that can only be known in your heart when you truly decide to submit to these 10 eternal laws. Love = not walking in the ‘flesh’, ie. you have to choose to walk after the Spirit’s wishes. In other words, you have to make GOD FIRST CHOICES that oppose your natural “I” desires, and the only way you can know what God wants is by following His commandments. LOVE IS A CHOICE BEFORE IT’S A FEELING, but you won’t choose love over your fleshly desires if you’re not fearful of God’s wrath and punishment. God has placed His law in our hearts (Heb.10:16) & we are simply required to use His standard, not to make blind duty choices, but to make love choices,. Ignoring the law means there is no choice, just a convenient way to do your own thing!
